This is a report to you on how GeoDayz -2018 went in Nacogdoches, Texas this past February. Hosted this year by Hydrex Environmental, Inc. and its Founder, Glen A. Collier*, P.G., C.P.G., the various presentations and demonstrations were contributed by seven Hydrex staff members with contributions and demonstrations also made by AIPG-TX President Henry M. Wise, P.G., C.P.G., and Michael D. Campbell, P.G., P.H., C.P.G., AIPG-TX Vice-President, Eastern Texas.  Regina Capuano, Ph.D., P.G. and John Berry, P.G., C.P.G., also attended GeoDayz, both serving as Councilors-at-Large of the AIPG – Texas Section. John Berry also serves as Editor of the AIPG’s Journal “The Professional Geologist“.  Kevin Stafford, Ph.D., P.G. Associate Professor of Geology at Stephen F. Austin State University presented the Saturday luncheon lecture on the geohazards of carbonate rocks at the road surface and associated underlying hydrogeology.

About 75 students and about 10 professionals attended the rigorous 2-day event dodging some rain between lectures and tented drilling, sampling, and logging demonstrations. All told, some 53 lectures/demonstrations were presented during the Saturday and Sunday of GeoDayz – 2018 (as rotating, personalized periods) to small groups of students (see schedule and photos in the Guidebook). Below is a link to the Post-GeoDayz Guidebook containing a table of contents, the program flyer, the list of sponsors, introductions, summaries of  presentations/demonstrations, PDFs of the presentations/demonstrations, and the photo history of the GeoDayz – 2018 event held in Nacogdoches, Texas this past February:

We intend to begin planning for the next GeoDayz – 2019 to be held in central Texas sometime next spring. Please remember that we go to these lengths in putting such events together for two reasons: 1) to introduce students and new professionals to what they can expect after graduation when they initiate their careers in the environmental or other industries, and 2) to raise money for the Texas Section Scholarship Fund.

Should you have any questions or comments regarding the 2018 event or on the coming events, feel free to contact your AIPG Texas Section District Representative or any of the Texas Board members (more).

In the future, you will be receiving information on additional training opportunities, either in person or online, as well as on the training opportunities supported by the Texas Section of the AIPG from time to time (more). You can also stay abreast of our activities by monitoring this AIPG-TX News page (more).
