President Wise Appoints First Student Councilor-at-Large to AIPG Texas Section Board

President Henry Wise, P.G., C.P.G., announced last night at the regular monthly meeting of the Texas Section Board that he has appointed William C. Farrell, a graduate student in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of Rice University in Houston, Texas as the first Student Councilor-at-Large of the Texas Section of the AIPG. In 2016, Mr. Farrell was awarded a Shoemaker Scholarship by the Texas Section of the AIPG (more).

Before he came to Rice, he attended The University of Miami for his Bachelor’s degree where he graduated cum laude and with honors, double majoring in Geological Sciences and Ecosystem Science & Policy with minors in Mathematics and Economics. During his time at the University of Miami, William was involved in two research projects focused on carbonate geology and ecological restoration.

Mr. Farrell’s role will be to provide a student perspective in all activities of the Texas Section AIPG, especially for the Texas Statewide AIPG Student Chapter, which was recently formed to provide assistance to the students of the 30 some universities and colleges in Texas with geology and geoscience programs. He also will participate in the student and young professional training programs being offered by the AIPG Texas Section called GeoDayz, next year in Austin, Texas (2019).
