Sponsored by the AAPG, and administered by Susan Nash, Ph.D., Director of Innovation and Emerging Science / Technology, the Subsurface Energy to Power Workshop is to be held January 7 & 8, 2026 at the Noris Conference Center, Houston. The workshop will focus on ways to solve our looming energy / electricity needs (data centers, communities) by focusing on subsurface resources that can be quickly harnessed for power generation. Natural gas, uranium, geothermal, hydrogen, and lithium are key. In this 2-day workshop, the panel members will explore developing and new solutions including SMRs, micro-grids, data centers, and other electricity co-op tie-ins, to avoid the line losses in long-distance transmission lines, pipelines, or other slow and costly infrastructure.
Mr. Michael D. Campbell, P.G., P.H., C.P.G., AIPG-TX Vice President, will be summarizing the in-situ uranium recovery method used to provide the fuel to power new nucealr power pants in Texas and to power the coming small (even micro) nuclear reactors and the micro-grids of the foreseeable future. There will be a full Q & A period after session presentations. Mr. Campbell is also the President & CEO of the I2M Corporation and Chief Geologist & Chief Hydrogeologist of the I2M Consulting Group based in Katy, Texas.
He said that:
“This workshop would be a great opportunity for Houston-area graduate students, especially for those attending Rice University and those in the University of Houston system campuses to meet and greet professionals in the new energy fields that are developing in the U.S. today. Employment could be waiting for students upon their graduation if they meet the right people now,” he emphasized.
The AIPG Texas Section Board of Directors have just approved the sponsorship of a table at the Workshop to provide additional mentoring to students during the Workshop. Nine student registrations (passes) valued at $150.00 each are available for qualified students in the Houston area, i.e., five passes specially for graduate students currently attending the Univerity of Houston and four gradute students attending graduate school at Rice University.
Mr. Henry M. Wise, P.G., C.P.G., President of the AIPG-TX Section is also planning to attend. Mr. Wise is also Vice President – Operations of the I2M Corporation based in Katy, Texas.
