AIPG-Texas Scholarship Committee Chair Announces 2018 Texas Scholarship Award Selections
Glen A. Collier, P.G., C.P.G., Chair of the AIPG Texas Section’s Scholarship Committee announced that three Texas Section scholarships have been awarded to the following students in Texas:
2018 Gene M. Shoemaker Graduate Scholarship ($2,500.00)
- Amanda Labrado, University of Texas at El Paso, Geology Department, Texas; (Essay); Recommended by Benjamin Brunner, Ph. D., University of Texas at El Paso; Presentation by Michael Jacobs (District I – AIPG Texas Section (Left), with Department Chairman James Kubicki, Ph.D. (Right); Photo taken by Ben Brunner, Ph. 2018 Ted H. Foss Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,000.00)

- Lenora Perkins, Texas A&M University at Kingsville, Texas; (Essay); Recommended by Thomas L. McGehee, Ph. D., P.G., Texas A&M University at Kingsville; (Foss Plaque). Presentation by Matt Cowan, District IV Representative – AIPG Texas Section, to Lenora Perkins, and with many of Ms. Perkins’ student friends and professors (more).
The awards will be made by a member of the Scholarship Committee/District Representative of the AIPG Texas Section with commemorative plaques (and checks) presented at the Department. For the Shoemaker Award, a copy of the book, Shoemaker by Levy: The Man Who Made an Impact, by David H. Levy, with the inscription (here) will also be presented to the recipient (more).
Congratulations to the students listed above for their outstanding performances to date. The AIPG Texas Section members trust that the they will continue to distinguish themselves and their universities in the years to come. We encourage those students who applied, but were not selected this year, to re-submit and update their applications for consideration next year.
Special congratulations go to the three students of the Department of Geology at the University of Texas at El Paso for being awarded three Shoemaker Scholarships over the past three years. Group Photo.
