Chapter Membership Dues Increase

At a recent AIPG-Texas Board meeting, we discussed the matter of annual Texas Chapter dues.  Our dues have been $10 since our section re-started in 2013. This is the same level of dues that we had in 2000 as well.

The Board has determined that we need to increase the Chapter dues to $15. We have been busy over the last five years developing and conducting occasional local meetings, field trips, and seminars, and establishing two scholarships programs, i.e., the Foss Scholarship for undergraduate students and the Shoemaker Scholarship for graduate students.

Since 2016, your Chapter has awarded six Foss Scholarships ($1,000 each) and five Shoemaker Scholarships ($2,500.00 each) amounting to 11 Texas students attending Texas universities to date. This is an outlay of $18, 500. over the past 3 years. In addition, we are in the process of sponsoring our first student chapter in Texas and have opportunities for Texas students via our new Texas Statewide AIPG Student Chapter as well.

Most recently we conducted our first annual training program, GeoDayz – 2018, a two-day seminar presented to about 70 students and young professionals, which presented the various tools and concepts that are used by industry today. This includes project management practices, storm-water monitoring and Phase I ESAs, GIS applications, drilling and sampling methods, wetlands geology, resistivity mapping, geophysical well logging, and drone surveying. It was a great success and earned excellent reviews from those who attended. We are planning on holding GeoDayz – 2019 in central Texas next year. We have also negotiated a deal with a major on-line training webinar provider over the past year, which reduced the cost of such training to members plus making money for the Texas Chapter. We have also improved other on-line Continuing Education opportunities.

The dues increase will help us continue to develop and conduct these excellent programs in the future. We’ve come a long way in the last five years and I believe the future for our Section is bright. I encourage each of you to contact your District AIPG Texas Section Representative (click on map for other districts) to help them with developing programs that are of interest to you. The more input we get from you, the better and more useful our programs will be to you, a valued member of the AIPG.

Please visit our Section News and keep up to date on what’s going on within your AIPG-Texas Section.

Call or write me, or one of the officers, or your district representative if you would like to get more active in your chapter. We would welcome your contributions.

Attention Students: Your membership fees are still zero.

On Behalf of the your Board of Directors,

Henry M. Wise, P.G., C.P.G.
President, AIPG-Texas Section
