Further Information on Defense Donations

As you know, the Texas Geoscience Practice Act is under attack. As a Professional Society, we must respond and defend this very important Professional Credential. Whether you have a Texas PG License or are in a field that is exempt from Licensure, the Texas Geoscience Practice Act is important to our Profession. It is of critical importance to those of us who practice before the public to defend the Texas Geoscience Practice Act. Therefore AIPG Texas is supporting, with money and manpower, the Texas Geoscience Council (TGC), which has been formed to defend the Act.

The Texas Geosciences Council’s mission is to unite the geoscientific community so that we can work together to accomplish three goals:

  • Immediately protect Geoscience licensure and the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists through the 2018 Sunset review process.
  • Immediately illustrate for the Texas Legislature the many important ways that geoscientists serve Texans and the critical role of geoscience licensure.
  • Undertake a long term campaign to educate the Texas public and its political representatives about the various practices of geoscience, and how they impact public health, safety and welfare.

Texas Geoscience Council’s efforts had a positive impact on members of the sunset commission when they met on August 30th to consider their staff’s recommendations to abolish Licensure. TGC has also had success in raising funds from several geoscience organizations, but much more will be required. We encourage all of our members to ask the organizations they work for and with, employers, clients, and contractors for contributions to the cause.

BUT, in order for AIPG and TGC to be successful in preserving Texas geological licensure we also need the personal financial support of all of the licensed geologists and AIPG-Certified geologists in Texas. AIPG Texas Section Board Members challenge you to donate to this cause. AIPG Texas Section will match individual donations dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $4,000.00. This challenge will expire on October 31, 2018, so we encourage each and every member to donate today!
