Roberto Reyna has been appointed as the new Student Councilor-at-Large for the AIPG Texas Chapter. He is a Graduate Student at the University of Houston pursing a master’s degree in geology, and is expected to graduate in May of 2026. His thesis topic is: Thesis: “Impact of brine upwelling on contamination of a sand aquifer associated with the occurrence of leakage from a natural CO2 reservoir in eastern-central Utah.” He graduated from U of H magna cum laude with BS in geology with a minor in geophysics. And earlier he graduated from the Texas A&M University magna cum laude with a BS in environmental studies.

Roberto recently participated as team geologist in multidisciplinary source-to-sink carbon capture and storage project aka SEG Evolve Carbon Solutions 8/2024 – 2/2025, researching relevant geology of the Southern North Sea area of interest and analyzed well logs and well reports for facies modeling.

WORK EXPERIENCE to Date

Geophysical Engineer Intern: Borehole Seismic, Houston, Texas 6/2023 – 1/2024

  • Installed geophone tool-strings in observation wells to monitor hydraulic fracture geometry.
  • Recorded and processed perforation-shot times and pumping duration for real-time data processing.
  • Analyzed micro-seismic primary and secondary waves to enhance event clarity.

Environmental Assessment Intern: BBG Real Estate Services, Houston, Texas 5/2022 – 8/2022

  • Trained to conduct and then implemented Environmental and Property Condition Assessments (ESA, PCA)
  • Assisted in drafting Phase I ESA’s, PCA’s, and Records Search with Risk Assessment (RSRA’s)

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE to Date

Student Ambassador Co-Chair, College of Natural Science and Mathematics (NSM) 8/2022 – 5/2024

  • Co-led a team of student ambassadors at NSM outreach and new student events
  • Selected to advise new program directors on current ambassador practices
  • Represented NSM at UH campus tours and College fairs Treasurer and Sponsorship Chair, University of Houston Rugby Football Club 1/2024 – 5/2024
  • In addition to playing as a starter, was responsible for managing club funds and helped establish comprehensive goals aimed at advancing the club’s development and success
