Texas Chapter AIPG Scholarship Application Deadline Extended to February 14, 2024

Dr. Regina Capuano, Chair of the Texas AIPG Scholarship Committee, announced today that the deadline to apply for both the Ted H. Foss Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,000.00) and the Gene Shoemaker Graduate Scholarship ($2,500.00) have been extended to February 14, 2024. Texas Chapter AIPG Offers Scholarships Again for 2024

The time to apply for a scholarship is now. The Texas Chapter of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG-TX) offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Texas universities. Over the years, the Officers and the Advisory Board of Directors of the Texas AIPG raise funds for the scholarships from: 1) sponsored training programs, such as the GeoDayz programs held on even years, 2) field trips to various areas of geological interest in Texas, and 3) and webinars managed by members of the Texas Board. AIPG-TX Scholarship Applications Deadline is February 1, 2024

Texas Students: This is a  reminder to all qualified undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Texas universities/colleges to apply for either the Foss Scholarship (for undergraduates) or the Shoemaker Scholarship (for graduate students) before the deadline of February 1, 2024. Final Announcement for Applying for AIPG Texas Section 2021 Undergraduate & Graduate Scholarships

President Wise announced today that two scholarships will be offered this coming spring of 2021, one undergraduate: Foss Undergraduate Scholarship, and one graduate scholarship: Shoemaker Graduate Scholarship.  For more information go to Scholarships | AIPG-TX. President Wise Also Announces that there will be Scholarships Awarded in 2021

President Wise also announced today that in 2019 and 2020 no scholarships could be awarded because of the cost required to defend the Licensing Board from attacks by the Sunshine Commission, amounting to some $6,000. Although the defense was successful, that effort drained the AIPG Section bank account.Now, we have built back some funds, but due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic that required us to postpone fund-raising Section field trips and GeoDayz training activities, only two scholarships will be offered this coming spring of 2021, a Foss Undergraduate Scholarship and a Shoemaker Graduate Scholarship. No Scholarships will be Awarded in 2019 Thanks to the SunSet Commission’s Challenge to our Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists

Glen A. Collier, P.G., C.P.G., Chair of the AIPG Texas Section’s Scholarship Committee announced today that unless funding for scholarships comes in from unanticipated benefactors, there will be no scholarships awarded in 2019 because all of our funds are required to help eliminate the SunSet Commission's challenge to our Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists. AIPG Texas Section Students in the 2018 National AIPG News

The latest (July/August/September) 2018 issue of The Professional Geologist spotlights several student members of AIPG Texas Section (more). Inside the front cover, Uziel Rindon (SA-8457), geology student at Stephen F. Austin State University, is pictured with his National AIPG Undergraduate Scholarship Award and his sponsor, Dr. Kevin Stafford.  Mr. Rindon’s article, “Why I Want to Be A Geologist”, is found on page 18. Lenora Perkins (SA-8533) contributed an article entitled “The Significance of Undergraduate Research Experience.”  Ms. Perkins is a geology student at Texas A&M University - Kingsville and is the recipient of 2018 Ted H. Chapter Membership Dues Increase

At a recent AIPG-Texas Board meeting, we discussed the matter of annual Texas Chapter dues.  Our dues have been $10 since our section re-started in 2013. This is the same level of dues that we had in 2000 as well. The Board has determined that we need to increase the Chapter dues to $15. We have been busy over the last five years developing and conducting occasional local meetings, field trips, and seminars, and establishing two scholarships programs, i.e., the Foss Scholarship for undergraduate students and the Shoemaker Scholarship for graduate students.
