A new report has been released under Mineral Commodities under C. Texas Aquifers: Groundwater as a Commodity It was prepared by Dr. Rima Petrossian, P.G., C.P.G., the Vice President, West Texas, of the AIPG Texas Section. It is intended to be a dynamic report, in that, the contents may be updated from time to time as new information becomes available. Your comments are invited.

Appointment of Member-at-Large

Henry M. Wise, President of the Texas Section of the AIPG announced today that he has appointed Mr. Matthew R. Cowen, P.G. as the Member-at-Large for the Texas Section and will join the Board immediately upon confirmation by the Board. Mr. Cowen serves as Chief Field Geologist for Terrain Solutions Inc. in Houston, Texas.

AIPG Texas Section Board Meeting

During the June 18th meeting of the Texas Section AIPG Board, and with a quorum present, Mr. Cowen's appointment by Mr. Wise, President of the Texas Section, was confirmed unanimously. Also during the meeting, Mr. Wise appointed Mr. Glen Collier, Councilor-at-Large, as Chair of the new AIPG-TX Scholarship Committee. He was confirmed by the Board unanimously. His initial function will be to develop criteria to guide the award of future scholarships to deserving students attending universities in Texas with strong programs in the geological sciences.

The Wise Report

During the mid-1990s, the Institute of Environmental Technology (IET), consisting of associates of the Environmental Litigation Associates (ELA) and other senior environmental professionals in the Houston area, taught a 4-month program designed to cross-train professional refugees from a depressed oil and gas industry for the purpose of finding employment in an expanding environmental industry. Over more than 5 years, some 400 geologists, engineers, and other professionals graduated from that program, most of whom found meaningful professional employment.
